Outjo: Kunene Governor, Vipuakuje Muharukua, aims to tackle youth unemployment in the region by developing a database of unemployed youth that can easily be contacted for job opportunities. Muharukua made this announcement during a meeting held at the Etoshapoort Community Hall in Outjo on Sunday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Muharukua emphasized the importance of being prepared when job opportunities arise. ‘We are fortunately developing a database to capture the information of the unemployed in the region. When opportunities come up, we want to be ready to provide jobs,’ he stated. The governor highlighted the upcoming roadworks between Khorixas and Kamanjab, as announced by Honourable Veikko Nekundi, as a potential job source for the youth.

Muharukua expressed his commitment to streamlining opportunities and ensuring their equitable distribution within the region. In an interview with Nampa, he shared that the regional government is collaborating with the Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations to integrate both skilled and unskilled youth into the workforce. ‘We need to find a way to capacitate the unskilled and skilled youth for opportunities. This exercise is the same as what the Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations is doing; ours is not unique,’ Muharukua noted.

The governor also announced plans to engage with the private sector, particularly in tourism and agriculture, to create sustainable job opportunities for the unemployed youth. He assured attendees that the regional government is committed to fulfilling the promises made by the Presidency during last year’s election, signaling a shift from business as usual.
