Windhoek: Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has rewarded the senior national women's football team, the Brave Gladiators, with N.dollars 300 000 following their historic triumph at the Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women's Championship on Sunday. According to Namibia Press Agency, MTC's Chief Brand, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability Officer, Tim Ekandjo, stated during the sponsorship handover ceremony on Thursday that the gesture is part of the company's ongoing commitment to the development of sport in Namibia. Ekandjo announced that the amount would be shared among the players and officials, with each receiving N.dollars 10 000. The Namibia Football Association's women's general manager, Jacqueline Gertze, also spoke at the event, expressing gratitude to the telecommunications company. Gertze noted that corporate support is crucial in strengthening women's football and providing players with the necessary resources to compete at higher levels. She emphasized MTC Namibia's role as a leading corpora te supporter of sport in the country, highlighting the positive impact of their contribution on the Brave Gladiators' motivation and success. Gertze further reflected on the journey of the Brave Gladiators, many of whom started playing at a young age through the NFA's Gals and Goals League. She recalled the significant achievement in 2006 when captain Helvi Eliakim led the team to its first-ever Cosafa Cup final. Gertze recounted the memorable match in Lusaka where Namibia defeated Zambia on penalties after a 1-1 draw, although the team ultimately fell short against South Africa in the final.
