Luanda: FRELIMO Secretary-General Chakil Aboobacar reaffirmed on Friday his party and the Mozambican people’s firm commitment to strengthening historic relations and cooperation with Angola and the ruling MPLA. He expressed this position at the end of a meeting with MPLA Vice-President Mara Quiosa and the FRELIMO political delegation, who are in Angola for a five-day official visit.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Aboobacar stated that the main objective of the visit is to “strengthen cooperation and friendship with the MPLA, a friendly and historic party,” emphasizing that “it is a time for unity and determination to face the challenges that both countries are facing.” He further highlighted the commitment of FRELIMO and the Mozambican people to remain steadfast and united in overcoming future challenges.

Aboobacar noted that the visit coincides with a significant period as Angola celebrates 50 years of independence, a milestone recently marked by Mozambique. Emphasizing the importance of this historic coincidence, he remarked, “Fifty years later, our struggle continues. Together, we will win and build our countries toward development.”

At the end of the meeting, the two parties exchanged symbolic souvenirs. Mara Quiosa, from Angola, donated the sculpture “The Thinker,” one of the most emblematic works of Tchokwe culture and a symbol of Angolan wisdom and identity. The Mozambican delegation presented a statue of a woman representing the strength, determination, and resilience of the Mozambican people.
