MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa Initiates Housing Project for Akosombo Dam Spillage Victims in North Tongu

ACCRA – Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has unveiled plans for a new housing project aimed at relocating residents displaced due to the Akosombo Dam spillage.

According to a new release by the Ghana News Agency, the project will be implemented by Construction Ambassadors, a subsidiary of the First Sky Group. The announcement was made following a sod-cutting ceremony to mark the commencement of construction work. The lands for the project have been provided free of charge by traditional authorities in three different locations within the constituency.

Mr. Ablakwa emphasized that the completion of the housing project would improve the living conditions of his constituents and restore their dignity. He also mentioned that the community is prepared to offer communal labor as support for the construction efforts. “North Tongu shall never forget the generosity and humanity of the First Sky Group,” the MP stated.

The housing initiative comes after more than 12,000 residents in the North Tongu district were displaced following the controlled spillage of the Akosombo Dam. The flooding has led to significant damages, including submerged houses, businesses, and farms. Several schools have also been closed temporarily, repurposing classrooms as temporary shelters.

Organizations and individuals are continually contributing to assist the affected residents during this crisis.
