Ijara – In a proactive move to engage the youth and deter them from drug abuse during the holidays, Ali Abdi Shekhow, the Member of Parliament for Ijara, has organized a football tournament in the constituency. The Sheikhow Super Cup tournament aims to provide a platform for young people to showcase their talents and potentially secure opportunities with established teams and clubs.
According to Kenya News Agency, the inaugural Sheikhow Super Cup tournament was specifically designed to engage idle youth and help them recognize and nurture their potential. The tournament, which is the first of its kind in the area, commenced at the Baraza Park Football Pitch in Masalani. It attracted several youth soccer clubs from all sub-counties in the constituency, marking a significant turnout for this maiden event.
The final match of the tournament saw an exciting face-off between Masalani Football Club and Young Boyz F.C. The game, characterized by impressive talent and skill, captivated both the fans and leaders in attendance.
Sheikhow lauded the participants for their exceptional football abilities and encouraged young individuals, particularly idle youth and school leavers, to take up the sport. He emphasized the importance of sports as an alternative to engaging in harmful activities like drug abuse. “Instead of concentrating on drugs and idleness, we want them motivated to join your brother in soccer,” he stated.
Further, Sheikhow appealed to other political leaders, especially in the North Eastern province, to adopt similar initiatives. He suggested that replicating such tournaments in their respective constituencies could significantly contribute to keeping the local youth productively occupied.
The tournament concluded with Young Boyz F.C. clinching the Sheikhow Super Cup title in a closely contested match against Masalani F.C., winning by a single goal. The victory set off jubilant celebrations among the team and spectators at the Baraza Park Football Stadium.
