Zorgho: In a nail-biting finale of the 9th edition of the Ganzourgou Unity Cup, Zorgho's Moutadar FC emerged victorious over Mogt©do's Golden Shoe team through penalties at the Zorgho multi-sports stadium.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the intense match, held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, saw Moutadar FC and Golden Shoe locked in a fierce battle. The first half ended without goals, but the second half saw both teams scoring once. With the score tied at 1-1, the game proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Moutadar FC won 4-2, eliciting a standing ovation from the crowd.
The tournament concluded with Moutadar FC taking the top spot, followed by Golden Shoe in second place, Moutadar A in third, and Tamarinier FC in fourth. The champion team was awarded a trophy, footballs, jerseys, and a cash prize of 150,000 FCFA, while the runner-up received 100,000 FCFA and footballs.
Alongside football, the event featured other competitions like scrabble, ludo, and p©tanque. Additionally, a borehole with a water tower was officially handed over to a school in Boumtenga, fulfilling a promise by Cheik Omar Bonkoungou made in 2024.
The Unity Cup, themed "United in effort, united for development," was overseen by the provincial High Commissioner, Ms. Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, represented by the Prefect of Zorgho, Valentin Badolo. Dr. Boblewend© Sakand©, director of the Philadelphia Clinic, sponsored the event. The final drew administrative, traditional, and religious leaders, as well as an enthusiastic crowd.
Sadou Kabor©, president of the organizing committee, expressed gratitude for the support from various authorities and praised the participation of young players, the "hopes of tomorrow." Dr. Sakand© emphasized the importance of unity for Ganzourgou's development, while Prefect Badolo commended the initiative for its unifying impact and encouraged similar efforts.
Sixteen teams from various municipalities participated in the competition, which began on March 8, 2025. With 27 matches played, this edition reinforced the Unity Cup's role in fostering cohesion and progress. Mr. Luc Noundia Kabor©, the Cup's promoter, continues to build a legacy of sport and solidarity in the province.
