Mouhoun’s Community Rallies for Citizen Monitoring to Support Transition

BONDUKUY, MOUHOUN — In Bondokuy, a community located 100 km from Dedougou, the local group known as the ‘Waiyans’ initiated a citizen watch program on August 15, drawing participation from numerous residents eager to bolster the ongoing political Transition.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the municipal coordinator of the ‘Ma Patrie ou Rien’ movement, the newly launched citizen monitoring efforts aim to support the security forces and encourage communal solidarity during the Transition period. The initiative kicked off with a moment of silence honoring those who have fallen defending the nation. Tamboé emphasized the movement’s goals: to back the FDS (Defense and Security Forces) and VDP (Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland), promote war communication, and foster cohesion among Bondokuy residents and security personnel.

Tamboé also noted the significant impact of the first terrorist attacks on Bondokuy on September 5 and 6, 2022, which led to the displacement of many residents. He highlighted the community’s recovery efforts under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, urging continued support for the local fighting forces.

During the event, Gnilé Tamini, a retired civil servant, addressed the youth, urging them to join the citizen watch and emulate the vigilance of the FDS or VDP to counteract potential threats in Bondokuy and the broader Boucle du Mouhoun region.

The meeting point for nightly vigils by the Waiyans has been established at a roundabout marked with tires, displaying the flags of Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Russia, symbolizing regional solidarity and international support. This location serves as a central site for the community’s ongoing commitment to the smooth progression of the Transition.
