Mouhoun Region Strengthens Disaster Response with New Fire and Rescue Company

Mouhoun: Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Emile Zerbo, inaugurated the 16th fire and rescue company of the National Fire Brigade in D©dougou. This development is poised to enhance the region's ability to combat fires and other disasters.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the inauguration took place on Friday, May 9, 2025, and was attended by the Commander of the National Fire Brigade of Burkina Faso alongside numerous local and regional dignitaries. The new company, situated in Camp Nazi Boni, represents a strategic advancement in bolstering emergency response efforts in the Boucle du Mouhoun region.

Speakers at the event collectively praised the establishment of this unit, highlighting its role in enhancing security and safeguarding the lives and property of local residents. Minister Zerbo articulated that under President Ibrahim Traor©'s leadership, the government has prioritized the decentralization of essential public services, which is reflected in this new initiative.

Minister Zerbo underscored that the inauguration of this company signifies the State's dedication to citizen safety, addressing a critical need in combating various disasters. He further stressed the infrastructure's significance for the Boucle du Mouhoun region's populace.

The Minister presented data indicating that since January 2024, firefighters in this unit have managed 740 interventions, treating 847 victims with 17 fatalities. He encouraged the residents of Boucle du Mouhoun to collaborate with the personnel of the new company.

Governor Babo Pierre Bassinga emphasized the growing threats of fires, floods, and accidents in the region, reiterating the necessity of establishing this fire station. The inauguration ceremony featured rescue and road safety demonstrations, tree planting, and guest book signing. Additionally, Minister Zerbo visited the D©dougou garrison infirmary to offer support to soldiers injured on duty.
