Mouhoun Province Implements Contingency Plan for Displaced Persons with Food Aid

Mouhoun: As part of the implementation of the contingency plan for the Mouhoun province, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), with the support of the Permanent Secretariat of the National Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Council, distributed food supplies to 105 households of newly arrived internally displaced persons in D©dougou on Thursday, May 22, 2025. The distribution ceremony was led by the Secretary General of the province, Boureima Ou©draogo.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this food distribution is a component of the Project "Strengthening local actors in preparation and response to emergencies" by the Danish Refugee Council. This effort is integrated into the overarching humanitarian response plan focused on emergency preparedness in the Boucle du Mouhoun region, which is experiencing threats of terrorist attacks, causing significant population movements and loss of life.

The initiative focused on displaced individuals and vulnerable households within host communities and local partners. Each household received a food kit containing a 50 kg bag of corn, a 25 kg bag of rice, a 15 kg bag of beans, a 5-liter can of oil, and 2 kg of salt.

For the representative of the DRC, L©on Paul Compaor©, the activity in D©dougou was initially intended as a practical exercise in assisting IDPs. "Given the security situation, which has deteriorated significantly in certain parts of the Boucle du Mouhoun region in recent times, we are witnessing an influx of people into D©dougou. It was therefore appropriate for DRC to adapt this exercise in order to distribute food to IDPs," he explained.

The Secretary General of the Mouhoun province, Boureima Ou©draogo, expressed gratitude to DRC and SP/CONASUR, emphasizing that this activity aligns with the contingency plan of the Mouhoun province, which was validated in March 2025 with the financial and technical support of DRC and SP/CONASUR. He urged beneficiaries to effectively utilize the kits.

Following the food distribution, a debriefing session was conducted to incorporate various recommendations for finalizing the contingency plan document for the Mouhoun province.
