Mouhoun/Food Sovereignty in the Commune of Safan©: The VDP and Dozo of Sirakorosso Committed to Food Sovereignty

Mouhoun: The Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) and the Dozo hunters of the Safan© commune planted rice on Thursday, June 25, 2026, on a five-hectare plot prepared for their benefit in the Sirakorosso rice-growing lowland. This action reaffirmed their commitment to food sovereignty while continuing their mission to ensure the security of the population.

According to Burkina Information Agency, from the early hours of the morning, the VDP and the Dozo mobilized extensively on this rice-growing site of approximately 40 hectares to begin the sowing work. In an atmosphere marked by solidarity and patriotism, the producers entered the area equipped with their agricultural tools and safety equipment.

Accompanied by performances from local griots, the participants began the cultivation operations, reflecting their desire to contribute to achieving food self-sufficiency advocated by the highest authorities in the country. Lonsani Dayo, the person in charge of organizing the activities of the communal VDP in Safan©, stated that this initiative demonstrates that community fighting forces can effectively reconcile the defense of the territory and agricultural production in the service of local development.

He praised the support of the administrative, customary, and security authorities of the commune, including the president of the special delegation (PDS), the canton chief, and the territorial gendarmerie brigade of Safan©, for their constant support of the actions undertaken by the VDP and the Dozo. Lonsani Dayo also paid tribute to the highest authorities of Burkina Faso for the guidance given in matters of national sovereignty, community resilience, and endogenous development.

Welcoming the improved security situation in the commune, he advocated for increased support for VDP producers, particularly through the provision of agricultural equipment such as a tractor for plowing and increasing yields. "This production helps to ensure our food supply during periods of on-call duty and strengthens our self-sufficiency," said Mr. Dayo.

The initiators also invited the VDP and self-defense groups from other municipalities to draw inspiration from this experience, while launching an appeal to people of goodwill and partners to support this citizen initiative. During the previous agricultural campaign, the VDP and Dozo producers of Safan© had harvested more than 342 bags of rice on an area of five hectares, a result which reinforces their ambition to strengthen their contribution to the food sovereignty of Burkina Faso.
