Mouhoun Customs and Traditions Day: Calls for Peace in Burkina Faso

Dedougou: The city of Dedougou vibrated on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in front of the palace of His Majesty the Canton Chief, to the rhythm of the second day of customs and traditions. In the presence of the Minister in charge of Housing, Mikalou Sidibe, and the administrative authorities of the Boucle du Mouhoun region, prayers were offered for the return of peace to the country.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony began with a sacred ritual, aimed at invoking the spirits of the ancestors for peace, security, and a good rainy season in Burkina Faso. This highlight allowed the community to come together around fundamental spiritual and cultural values.



The canton chief expressed his gratitude to Captain Ibrahim Traore and his government for the commendable initiative of establishing this day dedicated to customs and traditions but also a call for unity and peace in Burkina Faso. In a show of solidarity, he also expressed blessings to the authorities and the fighting forces, wishing for a rapid return to the territorial integrity of the country.



Through a ritual specific to the Bwa community, the canton chief gave a demonstration paying homage to the ancestors and asked them for protection, prosperity, peace, security, and a good rainy season for Burkina Faso.



The Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Mikalou Sidibe, on behalf of the Head of State, stressed the importance of this day in strengthening community ties. “The government has declared this day to allow this important segment of our society to have the opportunity to commune, exchange, pray and perform the rituals and rites necessary to reconnect the visible world with the invisible world, to benefit from the guidance of the spirits of our ancestors and to restore peace and security to our country,” he stressed. He thanked the canton chief and all the customary authorities of Dedougou for their prayers and their commitment to peace.



The event was enhanced by the presence of the Timbweni, the drums of the warriors in Bwa country, which resonated throughout the festivities. Fiber masks were also used for traditional performances, illustrating the richness and diversity of local culture.
