Mouhoun: The head of the Bankui Regional Judicial Police Service (SRPJ), Police Commissioner Gregoire Sanou, presented to the press the results of several recent operations against crime, organized crime, and illicit trafficking. These operations led to the dismantling of criminal networks and the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics and prohibited medications.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the press conference took place in the presence of the Central Commissioner of Dedougou, the Commander of the Republican Security Companies (CRS) group, the Director of the municipal police, as well as media professionals. The Bankui Regional Judicial Police Service (SRPJ) conducted an operation in the last week of February 2026 which resulted in significant achievements with the dismantling of two criminal networks and the arrest of a suspected perpetrator of fraud and impersonation.
Police Commissioner Gregoire Sanou praised the mobilization of journalists and stressed the importance of these exchanges with the press, which constitute an essential lever of transparency and contribute to strengthening trust between the security forces and the population. He indicated that since its creation in October 2025, the SRPJ of Bankui has been conducting sustained actions to combat organized crime and various forms of crime in the six provinces within its territorial jurisdiction.
According to him, the operations carried out between February 23 and 28, 2026, resulted in what were considered significant achievements, notably through the arrest of several individuals involved in organized criminal networks. His men's investigations led to the dismantling of two networks specializing respectively in drug trafficking and the marketing of illicit pharmaceutical products.
The first network, composed of two individuals, was arrested in possession of five kilograms of Indian hemp, the market value of which is estimated at more than 400,000 CFA francs. According to investigators, these individuals sourced their supplies outside the region before transporting the merchandise via mobile deliveries to artisanal gold mining sites where demand is particularly high.
The second network was involved in selling illicit medications. Searches conducted as part of the investigation led to the seizure of approximately 512 kilograms of prohibited products with an estimated value of nearly 5 million CFA francs. According to the police, these products were concealed in legal commercial channels before being redistributed in several rural localities.
Commissioner Sanou also mentioned a fraud case involving a woman arrested for impersonating a title. According to the information provided, the accused posed as an influential person in order to extort money from his victims, exploiting their credulity through manipulation and intimidation tactics.
The head of the SRPJ in Bankui explained that it was following a complaint that allowed his men to conduct investigations which led to the seizure of the products. He also stressed the importance of collaboration between security forces and the population in the fight against crime.
Gregoire Sanou invited citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious behavior, while encouraging victims of fraud or abuse to contact the relevant services to assert their rights. He reaffirmed his department's determination to continue the actions undertaken in order to effectively combat criminal networks and contribute sustainably to the security of people and property in the Bankui region.
The police commissioner explained that the police will be closer to the people in the region through the new concept of "Yaka Police". In the coming days, those responsible will be brought before the prosecutor's office for further legal proceedings.
