Dedougou: The Deputy Director General of the National Police, Dr. Gerard Tarbangdo, officially installed Divisional Commissioner Valentin Kabore as the new Regional Director of the National Police for Bankui on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. He succeeds Divisional Commissioner Abdoulaye Sidibe, who has retired.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Divisional Commissioner Valentin Kabore was appointed during the Council of Ministers on January 22, 2026, and now takes the reins of the Bankui Regional Directorate of National Police. The ceremony was attended by numerous figures from the regional administration, the national police, and the constituted bodies of the region, serving as an opportunity to pay tribute to the outgoing regional director, Abdoulaye Sidibe.
All attendees praised Sidibe's sense of duty, rigor, and leadership in public safety over his 41-year career. Having joined the National Police on August 3, 1984, Sidibe's career was marked by various responsibilities across several regions, ultimately leading the National Police of the Boucle du Mouhoun since March 2021, where he consolidated discipline and cohesion.
The Deputy Director General of the National Police, Dr. Gerard Tarbangdo, presented a certificate of recognition to Commissioner Sidibe for his service to the nation. Following this tribute, the official installation of the new regional director, Valentin Kabore, was completed with the ceremonial handing over of the flag, symbolizing command.
Valentin Kabore expressed gratitude to the authorities for their trust and reaffirmed his determination to work with loyalty, discipline, and integrity. He emphasized the need to adopt anticipatory and proactive solutions in response to security challenges, aligning with the National Police's vision for strategic and operational innovation.
Kabore called for cohesion, innovation, and strengthening of the police-population link, advocating for concerted action between defense and security forces, administrative authorities, and the population to address current challenges. He urged his colleagues to continue mobilizing and taking a proactive approach to security challenges through innovative solutions.
Commissioner Kabore stated his intentions to continue efforts in the region, especially in retaking and consolidating recaptured localities. He emphasized the importance of strengthening discipline, cohesion, and the police-population bond, recognizing that strong relations with the population are crucial to success.
Valentin Kabore, a senior officer trained at the National Police Academy and a legal studies graduate from Joseph Ki-Zerbo University, has held various strategic and operational roles across the country. Before his current appointment, he served as the regional director of the national police in Djoro.
