A 33-year-old woman allegedly gave birth and then strangled the newborn baby to death on Wednesday in Lordsville, Karasburg.

According to Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga, the suspect gave birth on her own at home at nine months pregnant, and then hid the lifeless body in a luggage bag and placed clothes atop to cover it up.

The suspect’s housemate alerted NamPol after becoming suspicious when they no longer saw pregnant signs on her, said Kuwinga through a crime report issued on Thursday.

Upon investigation, NamPol found the lifeless body of the infant hidden in the luggage bag.

“The body was taken to the hospital for certification and signs of strangulations were observed,” Kuwinga stated.

The suspect is currently admitted at Karasburg State Hospital where she is receiving medical attention after losing high volumes of blood.

The newborn’s next of kin, the biological father, was informed.

Police investigations are ongoing.
