Moscow Criticizes New US Tariffs as Violation of WTO Rules

Moscow: The White House's recent tariff decisions have sparked criticism from the Russian Foreign Ministry, which claims that Washington is disregarding international trade laws. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Wednesday that these decisions violate fundamental World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, indicating that the US no longer considers itself bound by international trade law.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Zakharova expressed that the US has opted for unilateral tariff protectionism instead of adhering to the WTO's legal procedures. She highlighted that the WTO provides a special procedure for the forced increase of tariffs, which the US has chosen to bypass.

Russia has expressed concern over the ongoing tariff war between the US and China, noting its negative impact on global processes. The Russian Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring developments, with Moscow advocating for fair and open trade relations. Zakharova emphasized that Moscow opposes unilateral restrictions and will analyze the impact of the US's actions, taking necessary measures to minimize potential damage.
