Morocco Takes Bold Step to Become Technology Maker at GITEX Africa

Marrakech: Morocco has made a decisive choice not to be a technology taker, but a technology maker and shaper, Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, said on Monday in Marrakech at the opening of the 3rd GITEX Africa Morocco 2025.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the minister emphasized that under the directives of King Mohammed VI, the national strategy Digital Morocco 2030 is structured to transform the Kingdom's digital ecosystem. The opening session was marked by the presence of national and international investors, government representatives, and various other stakeholders.

Seghrouchni highlighted that the strategy is based on two main pillars: the digitalization of public services to make them more efficient and accessible, and the stimulation of the digital economy to support entrepreneurship and innovation. She stressed that the transformation is being driven by concrete actions rather than just a vision.

The minister also spoke about the significance of the 3rd edition of GITEX Africa, the continent's largest technological event, which underscores the growing importance of the digital economy. The digital sector currently accounts for 15% of global GDP, equivalent to approximately $6,500 billion.

The Kingdom is actively participating in building a future where digitalization and artificial intelligence benefit all, Seghrouchni remarked. She noted that nearly 40% of startups at GITEX Africa are incorporating AI into their products and services, signaling a shift in the innovation landscape.

The opening ceremony, held under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, featured a video address from Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and was attended by members of the government, investors, and other notable figures. The event attracted around 45,000 participants and over 1,400 exhibitors from more than 130 countries, offering numerous conferences, creative industry initiatives, and networking opportunities.
