Morocco Starts AFCON Campaign with 2-0 Win Over Comoros

Rabat: Morocco's Atlas Lions secured a 2-0 victory against the Comoros national team on Sunday evening at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, marking the beginning of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025. The match witnessed the presence of His Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the game saw Morocco with an early opportunity to score from the penalty spot in the 9th minute, following a foul in the Comoros box. However, Soufiane Rahimi's penalty was saved by Comorian goalkeeper Yannick Pandor, keeping the score level until halftime.

Returning with increased control and intensity in the second half, Walid Regragui's team broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute. Brahim D­az, Real Madrid's attacking midfielder, finished a well-executed team move initiated by Noussair Mazraoui from close range. Morocco's dominance was further confirmed when Ayoub El Kaabi scored a backheel goal in the 73rd minute.

Moroccan supporter Fariz expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, "I am very happy with our team, because they gave us a victory with some beautiful goals." This victory positions Morocco favorably in the AFCON, showcasing their ambitions for the remainder of the competition.

The Moulay Abdellah Stadium, which hosted the match, has a seating capacity of 53,000 and was inaugurated in September 2025 by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan.
