Marrakech: The Kingdom of Morocco is actively advocating for an ethical, inclusive, and regulated AI that respects human rights, safeguards personal data, and serves the collective good, Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch stated on Monday in Marrakech.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, in an address at the opening of the 'GITEX Africa Morocco 2025' tech fair, organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and running until April 16, Akhannouch emphasized Morocco's commitment to international dialogues on AI. He underscored the importance of ethical and regulated AI that prioritizes human rights and collective benefits.
In a recorded video intervention, Akhannouch highlighted the urgent need to address unethical practices, such as cyberattacks, by enhancing information security and protecting systems from threats. He emphasized Morocco's proactive stance at the recent AI Action Summit, advocating for Africa's active role in AI development rather than remaining a testing ground.
The Government Chief further elaborated on Morocco's strategic focus on digitalization, guided by the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The national strategy 'Digital Morocco 2030' is centered on building a digital administration that benefits citizens and businesses and fostering a digital economy that drives innovation, wealth, and employment.
Morocco's initiatives include reforms such as partnerships with global tech firms to bolster national human capital, investment attraction, tailored funding for startups, and enhancing service outsourcing in high-value-added sectors. Additionally, Morocco is establishing a regulatory framework to encourage innovation and facilitate startup access to public procurement.
