Rabat, The Moroccan Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Medhi Bensaid opened this Sunday evening in the Moroccan capital, the 1st edition of Roots Rabat-Days of Pan-African Cinema which aims to “develop the African film sector”.
“This event is a perfect opportunity to devote all the efforts made to develop the cinematographic sector but above all to promote the made in Africa because today, Africa produces more and more”, indicated this Sunday evening the Minister Mohamed Medhi Bensaid in Rabat.
The head of the Department of Youth, Culture and Communication of Morocco Mohamed Medhi Bensaid spoke this Sunday during the opening ceremony of the 1st edition of Roots Rabat-Days of Pan-African Cinema.
He indicated that “today, Africa lets retain its talent more and more and its echoes reach the four corners of the world”.
Minister Bensaid reaffirmed his department’s desire “to support the continental cinematographic sector, to contribute to its development and to promote it everywhere”.
For Mohamed Medhi Bensaid, “it is important that the various government sectors concerned work in close collaboration with professional filmmakers in the sector in order to create a cinematographic landscape conducive to calls for creativity and innovation”.
“I welcome all our filmmaker brothers and sisters and thank you for your perseverance and commitment to the development of the African cinema sector,” the minister said.
The 1st edition of Roots Rabat-Pan-African Cinema Days is being held from Sunday March 12 to Thursday March 16, 2023 in Rabat, African Capital of Culture under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him.
It was created thanks to a partnership between the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Hiba Foundation.
According to the Director General of the Hiba Foundation Marwane Fachane, “Roots Rabat is a professional event that allows the various actors in the cinematographic value chain to think together, build new synergies, South-South sharing and above all to consolidate and support the strong ties that exist between the countries of the African continent”.
Mr. Fachane stressed that “this event enriches and strengthens the position of the Kingdom of Morocco in its desire to participate in the structuring of the artistic and cultural ecosystems of the African continent, in particular by increasing the skills of the various links in the value chain and linking its various links”.
“Roots Rabat is a moment of sharing, dissemination and bringing Moroccan audiences closer to African films. The event pays tribute to the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO), the International Festival of African Cinema of Khouribga in Morocco and many others,” he said.
