More Than 179,000 Volunteers Mobilized for Development Projects in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou: More than 179,506 national volunteers have been mobilized across Burkina Faso to support development projects, as announced by the Ministry of Sports, Youth, and Employment during a ceremony marking International Volunteer Day (IVD).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was organized to highlight the contributions of volunteers towards national development. Nestor Noufe, Director General of the Public Interest Group - National Volunteer Program in Burkina Faso (GIP-PNVB), spoke on the significance of International Volunteer Day, a United Nations initiative since 1985, which underscores the vital role volunteers play in societal transformation globally.

During the event, the Ministry of Youth celebrated the day under the theme: "The People's Progressive Revolution: Role and Contribution of Volunteers." Mr. Noufe highlighted the mobilization of over 179,506 national volunteers by the GIP-PNVB, who have been instrumental in supporting communities in health, education, agriculture, and sports sectors.

Noufe further elaborated on the impact of volunteers, stating they are integral to the Popular Progressive Revolution, actively participating in development efforts in various sectors, including crisis-affected areas. The Minister of Employment, Roland Somda, reinforced the theme's message, advocating for a shift from ineffective community-based practices to approaches fostering independence and resilience.

Minister Somda commended the volunteers for their essential role in building a network of national solidarity and resilience. He encouraged them to continue their dedicated efforts, urging them to serve as representatives of the Burkinabe Revolution within their communities.
