More boots on the ground for a crime free society, suspects arrested

On Saturday, 27 May 2023, police members from various stations within the Amathole District embarked on Operation ‘Vuthu Hawe’ in efforts to curb crime in the streets of Dutywa.

Police stamped their authority in Dutywa CBD by protecting and securing the inhabitants of South Africa and their properties. During their patrols, four suspects aged between 32 and 46 years were arrested for possession of drugs (48 straws of TIK and three mandrax tablets) and others for operating illegal shebeens. Liquor was also confiscated. As part of crime prevention strategy, dangerous weapons were also confiscated during stop and searches in the CBD. One driver (38) was fined R1500.00 by the traffic officers for operating an unroadworthy motor vehicle.

These suspects are due to appear at Dutywa magistrate court on Monday.

The Amathole District Commissioner, Major General Ngangema Xakavu commented that,’ we are sending out a strong message to criminals that we, the police will not rest until our streets are clean and our societies feel safe and secure.’
