MOMBASA — In a thrilling encounter at the KPA Mbaraki Sports Club on Saturday, Mombasa Elite faced their thirteenth defeat of the National Super League (NSL) season, falling 2-0 to local rivals Mombasa Stars.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mombasa Stars secured their victory with goals from Samson Karisa and Alvin Ngoto in the first and second halves, respectively. Ngoto, making his debut on loan from Bandari FC, doubled the lead shortly after halftime, marking a successful start with his new team.

Mombasa Stars’ coach, Hussein Mohammed ‘Madaga’, acknowledged the challenge posed by Mombasa Elite but expressed gratitude for the win, highlighting the effort and performance of his players, especially newcomers Magige and Ngoto. “All the players fought hard to ensure that we won this match,” Madaga commented, praising Ngoto’s scoring debut and Magige’s composure in midfield.

On the other side, Mombasa Elite’s coach, Patrick Nyale, lamented his team’s missed opportunities and acknowledged the superior defensive and offensive play of Mombasa Stars. “We did not give them enough pressure, and that was where I was disappointed very much,” Nyale stated, reflecting on his team’s performance.

With this win, Mombasa Stars now stand at 11th in the NSL standings, accumulating 26 points from 20 matches. Meanwhile, Mombasa Elite find themselves in a more precarious position at 17th, with 19 points from an equal number of games.
