MOMBASA: Mombasa County Commissioner Mohamed Noor has announced intensified security measures in response to a recent increase in motorcycle-related thefts, aiming to reassure both residents and visitors of their safety.
According to Kenya News Agency, Commissioner Noor emphasized the ongoing efforts by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to track down the criminals using motorcycles for theft. “We would like to appeal to the residents to assist us with information. We will leave no stone unturned to arrest them,” Noor stated during the 61st Mashujaa Celebration at the Mama Ngina Waterfront. The commissioner highlighted the challenges posed by fast-moving motorcycles used in the theft of mobile phones, making pursuit difficult.
To address the situation, the government will deploy additional police officers to ensure swift apprehension of the offenders. With schools closing for a two-month holiday, Noor also urged parents to steer their children away from activities that could lead to criminal behavio
r. He noted ongoing school programs designed to instill good behavior in students to prevent the rise of juvenile gangs.
The County Commissioner also issued a stern warning against individuals posing as squatters and attempting to invade private land in Jomvu, Kisauni, and Nyali Sub-Counties. “Officers on the ground, Sub-County Security teams must ensure private lands are not invaded and taken over. The law mandates us to protect lives and properties, which is our core business. We will not accept,” he asserted.
In addition to security measures, Noor encouraged Mombasa residents to register for the Boma Yangu portal to take advantage of the Affordable Housing Program. The construction of 1,976 housing units in Nyali Sub-County has commenced, marking a significant development in the area. The project will feature a mix of social, affordable, and market housing units, along with a commercial center, municipal market, hospital, and educational institutions.
“The two-in-one project will have a public and resid
ential side,” Noor explained, highlighting the transformation the project will bring to the V.O.K area. He urged local residents to prepare to purchase the housing units to prevent outsiders from acquiring them.
Lastly, Noor called for expedited passport processing by the Mombasa Passport Office, ensuring local youths have opportunities for overseas employment.
