Moscow: Information on a Moldovan intelligence agent operating in Russia signals Chisinau’s antagonistic stance towards Moscow, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
According to Namibia Press Agency, on Wednesday, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the expulsion of Dmitry Rusnak, a Moldovan intelligence agent. Rusnak was reportedly tasked with gathering intelligence on the Russian authorities’ strategies concerning Moldova, including information on Russian officials and security forces. Additionally, in 2020, Rusnak facilitated connections between Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s intelligence service, and Maia Sandu, then a presidential candidate in Moldova.
“This is another manifestation, I mean such actions that were detected and suppressed by Russia’s FSB are another manifestation of the hostile line of the Moldovan authorities towards our country,” Zakharova stated during a briefing. She elaborated that the Russian government considers various diplomatic responses to such situations, including summoning ambassadors, and these decisions are made based on the context of each incident. Zakharova emphasized that any shareable information would be communicated appropriately.
