MoGCA and Partners Advance Coordinated Push to End Violence Against Women and Girls

Freetown: The European Union-funded Spotlight Initiative 2.0 convened its National Steering Committee meeting at the Atlantic Hall in Freetown, uniting key stakeholders committed to protecting and empowering women and girls across Sierra Leone. Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, Co-Chair of the committee, urged government ministries and UN agencies implementing the initiative to 'over-deliver' for maximum impact in ending all forms of gender-based violence, while clearly communicating results to drive further progress.

According to Sierra Leone News Agency, the meeting endorsed governance documents, the 2026 results framework and work plans, and assessed implementation steps. Minister of Gender and Children's Affairs Dr. Isata Mahoi and Chief Director Mr. Charles Vandi reaffirmed the Ministry's dedication to ending gender-based violence, advancing gender equality, and safeguarding women's and children's rights.

Dr. Mahoi noted: 'We already see strong collaboration. UN agencies, civil society, and government institutions are working together under Spotlight 2.0 toward our shared goal.' She added that the Ministry remains fully committed to the initiative's implementation, ensuring meaningful and sustainable impact for women, girls, and vulnerable communities nationwide. The meeting served as a vital platform to strengthen partnerships, review progress, and shape sustainable community interventions.
