MODHEM+/DDC Project Nears Completion with a Remarkable Execution Rate

Koudougou: The MODHEM+/DDC project, aimed at improving livestock mobility and agropastoralist income, is approaching its conclusion with a notable execution rate of 93%, prompting discussions on its potential renewal to address ongoing challenges and build on its achievements. The project’s steering committee convened for its second session of 2024 to review and adopt the project completion report.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Project to improve livestock mobility and agropastoralist income through mobile telephony and satellite imagery, complemented by a pastoral infrastructure component, is set to conclude on December 31, 2024. The steering committee’s session, held on December 30, 2024, in Koudougou, served as a platform to evaluate the project’s outcomes and formulate recommendations for the management unit and intervention partners.

Mamadou Diallo, representing the president of the steering committee, emphasized the project’s critical role in supporting pastoralism. The investment report highlights significant achievements, including the development of over 217 km of cattle tracks and more than 27,210 hectares of pastoral areas. The recently secured pastoral zone of Sondr© spans over 14,000 hectares. The project also advanced pastoral value chains by establishing a viable investment model for fodder production, yielding 476,000 tons of fodder, and addressed conflict prevention and resolution.

Project coordinator Kassoum Ou©draogo confirmed the project’s execution rate of 93%, affirming its success in achieving objectives through tangible results and effective implementation. Expressions of gratitude were directed towards the Swiss Cooperation Office (SDC) for providing 3.3 billion FCFA in funding and ongoing support, as well as the Dutch Development Organization (SNV) for project leadership from January 2021 to December 2024.

The steering committee chairman expressed a desire to consolidate and sustain the project’s achievements, recommending the exploration of a second project phase. The representative of the implementing actors echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the project’s significant impact on beneficiaries. Salifou Sar©, representing the Swiss Cooperation Office, commended the commitment and resilience of project actors and indicated that discussions with the government could facilitate the project’s renewal.
