Centre-Ouest: During the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the National Police on Saturday in the Center-West region, Police Commissioner Alain Tarnagda emphasized that mobilization and cohesion among Burkinabè are essential strategies to address current challenges effectively. "The National Police of Burkina Faso: 75 years of commitment to the homeland" was the theme for celebrating the alabaster jubilee of this institution, tasked with the protection of people and property. According to Burkina Information Agency, in the Centre-West, the commemoration aimed to honor the fallen Forces of Defense and Security (FDS) and included sports activities such as Maracana and pétanque. These activities have been gaining popularity in the region, fostering greater interaction between the police, other armed forces, and the community. Commissioner Alain Tarnagda, who also serves as the provincial director of the National Police of Boulkiemdé, highlighted in his speech the importance of unity among Burkinabè. He noted that "the only effective way to overcome current and future challenges remains the mobilization and cohesion of all Burkinabè." The performance of the Burkinabe police has been recognized as superior to that of police forces in 39 other African countries, as per the Afrobarometer report on police performance in Africa, published on December 16. Commissioner Tarnagda expressed pride in the legacy upheld by the elders of the National Police, which has resulted in a 68% performance score. Alain Tarnagda further remarked that the ongoing jubilee serves as a reminder of their commitment to the nation, especially during a time when the country is combating terrorism. He reiterated the National Police's gratitude towards the Forces vives of the region for their support in fulfilling their mission. Jean Yaméogo, the event's sponsor, represented by Christophe Idogo, regional director of sports and leisure, expressed pride in the National Police's journey. He encouraged continued cohesion and committed to supp orting efforts for peace in Burkina Faso. Interim regional governor Adama Jean Yves Beré also commended the positive developments in the region. He urged the FDS to remain vigilant and committed, emphasizing the generational challenge they face and the responsibility to leave a peaceful and stable Burkina Faso for future generations. The event concluded with rewards for participating teams in the sporting activities, including trophies, balls, and monetary prizes. Tributes were paid through flag-raising ceremonies, prayer sessions at local religious sites, and visits to the families of fallen FDS members, accompanied by donations.
