The average money market rate (MMR) rose to 8.02% in February 2023, compared with 7.96% in January 2023 and 7.26% in December 2022, according to data published by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) on Wednesday.
At the same time last year, the MMR was around 6.25% in February 2022 and 6.23% in February 2021.
This rise is explained by the successive increases in the BCT’s key interest rate, the latest of which (on 30 December 2022) was 75 basis points to 8%, following forecasts that inflation will continue to rise in 2023.
