Ministry of Water Resources, CRS Strengthen WASH Partnership

Freetown: Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) strengthened WASH collaboration during a Freetown gathering that brought together government officials, CRS representatives, and United Nations delegates.

According to Sierra Leone News Agency, Permanent Secretary Allieu Bakarr Conteh chaired the engagement where Minister Dr. Sao-Kpato Hannah Isatta Macarthy demanded stronger sector coordination. She highlighted plans for a data management platform to support evidence-based decisions targeting priority communities like Tombo and Number Two River.

Dr. Macarthy noted that improved planning systems and alignment with national policies would expand access to safe water, particularly in underserved zones. The gathering also introduced Michael Moyo as CRS's incoming Country Director. Moyo pledged to build upon current alliances while working closely with the West African nation's government, with goals to enhance service delivery and protect vital water ecosystems.

Discussions further emphasized gender inclusion across WASH programming. The Minister underscored that respect for women must remain central to every intervention. Dr. Macarthy also praised Catholic Relief Services for ongoing emergency response efforts throughout Sierra Leone, calling for sustained cooperation, transparency, and open communication to better serve vulnerable populations nationwide.

The session concluded with a shared resolve to strengthen coordination mechanisms and accelerate progress toward inclusive, sustainable WASH services countrywide.
