The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is organising an event on Monday, July 25, at 18:30 at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, as part of the Conference “Our Ocean Greece 2024”, the 9th International “Our Ocean Conference”, which will take place in our country in 2024.
“Our Ocean Conference”, which was first organised in 2014, is an initiative by the US former Secretary of State and current Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry.
The 9th Conference is expected to examine ways to address the impacts of climate change, overfishing and marine pollution.
It should be emphasised that the protection and preservation of the marine environment is a separate chapter of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (Chapter 12), which is expected to be highlighted both at the Conference of 2024 and next Monday’s event.
The event will be addressed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gabon, Michael Moussa Adamo, who will be visiting our country, Deputy Minister for Environmental Protection Issues George Amyras, as well as the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, responsible for Fisheries Policy Simos Kedikoglou.
In addition, the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry and the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Ioannis Plakiotakis, will address the event via video-recorded messages.
Representatives of the Diplomatic Missions accredited in Greece, relevant agencies, as well as Non-Governmental Organizations are expected to attend the event.
