RUNDU: Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, called on the Rundu Town Council (RTC) to make use of public events like trade fairs to present and clarify their current and prospective plans for urban development. Mutorwa made the remarks during the official inauguration of the Rundu Trade Fair, which commenced on October 27.
According to NAMPA, October is a month when multiple trade fairs occur across the nation, contributing to the economic rejuvenation of towns, regions, and the country. The minister questioned the RTC’s specific plans for exploiting the town’s considerable potential, pointing out that the council still operates from outdated office buildings. He expressed hope that within three years, a groundbreaking ceremony would mark the beginning of the construction of modern administrative facilities for the RTC.
In the same event, Mutorwa acknowledged the contributions made by various organizations and individuals during the RTC’s fundraising gala dinner. The event garnered over N.dollars 250,000. He noted that trade fairs serve as vital platforms for entities to disseminate information about their services.
Fransiska Thikerete-Kupembona, chairperson of the Rundu Trade Fair Organising Committee, said the aim is to create an ecosystem where both large and small organizations can thrive. She informed that this year’s trade fair attracted 114 exhibitors, an increase from last year’s 103. Among the first-time participants are Specsavers, Letshego Bank, Fudlink, Welwitschia Fund, and Mboma Street Wear. The trade fair is scheduled to conclude on November 4, 2023.
