Luanda: The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Isaac dos Anjos, emphasized in Luanda that agriculture plays a crucial role in combating and eradicating poverty among families.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister made these remarks during the opening of a workshop aimed at launching the public consultation for the development of the National Strategy for the Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems 2026-2035. He urged families to increase their involvement in agricultural production, highlighting it as the “gateway out” of poverty.
Isaac dos Anjos underscored that agriculture is the primary occupation and source of livelihood for a significant portion of the African population. He advocated for a shift from subsistence to commercial agriculture to enable families to create savings and secure their livelihoods.
He further stated that a “peasant citizen must be responsible and able to provide for his own family and build financial reserves to guarantee his children’s education.” The workshop also examined topics such as the intensification of sustainable food production, agro-industrialization, trade, and the importance of boosting investment and financing to expedite the transformation of agri-food systems.
