Luanda: The minister of Health, Slvia Lutucuta, praised the Draft Law on Clinical and Biomedical Research in Angola, highlighting its potential to contribute to scientific and technological development in the health sector and introduce new therapies in the country.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister expressed her support for the draft law during the 2nd plenary session of the National Assembly, where it was considered and voted on. The draft law received overwhelming approval with 182 votes in favor, zero against, and no abstentions.
The minister emphasized that the draft law is designed to protect research subjects by implementing measures that ensure their dignity, well-being, and safety. She noted that the approval of this legislation aims to provide access to better therapeutic alternatives by evaluating the risk-benefit relationship.
Slvia Lutucuta further stated that the safety and well-being of research subjects should take precedence over the interests of science and society, ensuring that scientific and technological advancements in health benefit the population. The law will establish clear principles and rules to guide clinical research.
The draft law is comprehensive, containing 47 articles divided into 7 chapters.
