Luanda: The Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos dos Santos, has commended the dedication and essential contributions of Angolan builders in advancing the development of a modern Angola. This acknowledgment coincides with the 47th anniversary of Builder’s Day, celebrated on December 3rd, and occurs as Angola hosts an unprecedented visit from US President Joe Biden. Biden’s three-day agenda in the country emphasizes the construction of rail and energy infrastructures across Africa.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister highlighted the ongoing efforts to provide decent housing for Angolans and the development of public infrastructures as key challenges facing the sector. These endeavors, outlined in the 2023/2027 National Development Plan (PDN), necessitate collaboration between public and private sectors to maintain the sector’s status as a significant job creator and to strengthen national unity by improving connectivity and reducing distances-culturally, physically, and psych
ologically.

On the occasion of Builder’s Day, the minister took the opportunity to honor the pioneers in the field, notably Angola’s first president, António Agostinho Neto, who initiated the celebration on December 3, 1977, following his visit to housing projects in Luanda’s Golfe neighborhood. The ministerial department also acknowledged the concerted efforts of contractors, architects, inspectors, artisans, professional associations, and other partners who contribute to building a better Angola.
