Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias to participate in the “Manama Dialogue” annual forum (Manama, Bahrain, 20.11.2022)

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias will travel to the Kingdom of Bahrain (Manama) tomorrow, Sunday, November 20, 2022, to participate in the “Manama Dialogue” annual forum (18-20 November 2022).

In particular, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will participate in the panel discussion “New Security Partnerships in the Middle East”.

It is noted that the Minister attended this forum as the only European Foreign Minister in 2021, as well.

During his stay in Bahrain, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will hold a meeting with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. Following the one-on-one meeting between the two Ministers, expanded talks will take place.

Subsequently, the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding is being scheduled: a) a Memorandum of Understanding on visa waiver for diplomatic, service, and special passports, and b) a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Diplomatic Training.

Lastly, the two Foreign Ministers are scheduled to make joint statements to the press.

Talks between the Foreign Ministers are expected to focus on further strengthening bilateral relations in areas of common interest, on the two countries’ commitment to International Law – including the Law of the Sea – as well as on developments and challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Gulf region.

It is noted that the Foreign Minister of Bahrain visited our country last May.

On the sidelines of his participation in the Manama Dialogue Forum, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to hold meetings with the UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, the US National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk, and French Deputy Secretary-General for Defence and National Security, Vincent Cousin.
