The Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias will travel to Brussels tomorrow, Monday, July 12, to participate in the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
Included in the agenda are the geopolitical implications of new digital technologies, the developing Strategic Compass and the developments in Ethiopia, especially in the Tigray Region.
Under the heading “current affairs”, the situation in Afghanistan, Lebanon, South Caucasus, Libya and Belarus is expected to be discussed.
The Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs is also expected to inform the Council on the latest developments on the Cyprus issue, with particular emphasis on the issue of the fenced-off area of Famagusta, in view of the Turkish President’s illegal visit to the occupied part on July 20.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias is expected to inform on the security situation in the Sahel region, in light of his recent meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Niger.
An informal exchange of views with Israel’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yair Lapid, is scheduled to take place during the Council’s working lunch.
Finally, before the beginning and on the sidelines of the meeting, the Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs will host an informal working breakfast with the members of the Council, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, is invited for an exchange of views on the latest developments in the Middle East, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), as well as EU-Egypt relations.
