Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ statement upon arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) (Brussels, 20.02.2023)We will discuss a number of important issues today, including Ukraine, and women’s rights in Afghanistan, as well as issues raised by climate change and the huge challenge of protecting the environment.

Aside from that, however, I will have the opportunity, right from the beginning, to brief my colleagues about my visit to the earthquake-affected areas of Türkiye as well as to discuss how we can stand by the victims of the earthquake in Türkiye and Syria. I regret to say that this was a biblical, unprecedented disaster. Consequently, it requires an enormous amount of assistance and support.

JOURNALIST: Are you worried that in these conditions the war could extend to other countries? Especially, your French colleagues said before that we don’t have to humiliate Russia, we don’t have to put Russia in the corner.

N. DENDIAS: Greece has a position of principle; territorial integrity, and sovereignty of all countries. We go by that as the “Holy Gospel”.
