I had an extremely interesting visit, today in Spain, in Madrid. I had the opportunity to meet with the Speaker of the Lower House, the Foreign Affairs Committee and to have an extensive series of consultations and a working lunch with my Spanish counterpart.

First of all, talks resulted in the signing of two Memoranda of Cooperation: A Memorandum on Political Consultations and a Memorandum on Cooperation of our Diplomatic Academies.

What was also interesting, however, was the effort to be able to have a common reading with Spain, on the one hand, of the crisis in Ukraine and the implications of the Russian invasion. But also, of a number of issues concerning Spain and Greece, such as migration, the situation in North Africa, especially in Libya, but also the challenges that Greece faces due to Turkish unlawful conduct in the Eastern Mediterranean.

I hope that today’s discussions were an important step in deepening Greek-Spanish relations, as well as a contribution to Spain’s support to Greece in the months and years to come.
