MTC Launches Fundraising Initiative for Brave Warriors’ Afcon Bid

WINDHOEK — Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has called on businesses in Namibia to contribute to the national football team’s preparations for the forthcoming African Nations Cup (Afcon) in Ivory Coast by donating a minimum of N.dollars 100,000.

According to the Namibia Press Agency (Nampa), Corporate Affairs and Marketing Officer Tim Ekandjo, who spoke at the ‘MTC Knockout Project’ launch event on Monday, the telecommunications company has pledged N.dollars 2 million of the N.dollars 5 million goal they aim to raise to support the Brave Warriors. The funds are earmarked to prepare the team for the 2023 Afcon finals, which will take place in January and February 2024.

Ekandjo highlighted the importance of adequate preparation for the Warriors to advance beyond the group stages at the upcoming Afcon. The initiative underscores a commitment to improving the team’s competitiveness and achieving victory in the matches.

MTC has also introduced a dedicated SMS line (88488) as part of the fundraising efforts, allowing Namibians to donate N.dollars 3 per message until the closing date on December 6, 2023. The total amount raised through this channel will be disclosed on December 8, 2023.

The campaign has already garnered support with the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) pledging N.dollars 100,000, while the Namibia Special Risks Insurance Association (Nasria) has also promised a contribution, though the specific amount remains to be announced.

In a related development, the Dr Hage Geingob Cup, scheduled for November 18, 2023, will contribute all gate proceeds to the Brave Warriors’ preparation efforts through the ‘MTC Knockout Project’.

The team’s coach, Collin Benjamin, expressed appreciation for the support, noting that such initiatives bolster their confidence and aspirations to not only compete but also to secure a win at the Afcon tournament.
