Minister Highlights Commitment to Robust and Credible Statistics Production

Luanda: The Minister of Planning, Victor Hugo Guilherme, emphasized on Tuesday the national authorities' commitment to producing robust and credible statistics that align with universal quality standards. Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the 2026 academic year of the National Statistical System (SEN), the minister emphasized the importance of technical training for personnel to adapt to evolving trends and to support decision-making bodies and scientific research by harmonizing essential indicators.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister, who is also the chairperson of the National Statistics Council, recalled that the National Strategy for Statistical Development (ENDE) prioritizes strengthening the technical and institutional capacity of SEN personnel at all levels, including those responsible for producing statistics at the provincial level.

The minister noted that this aligns with the National Development Plan (ENDE) for 2023-2027, which emphasizes strengthening the training component to ensure the quality of expected results in various sectors of the country's economic and social life. The alignment of the National Development Strategy (ENDE) and the National Development Plan (2023-2027) demonstrates the Executive Branch's integrated vision and commitment to ensuring the National Statistical System has the necessary qualified personnel to rigorously, efficiently, and credibly respond to Angola's current challenges, according to the ministry's head.

Victor Hugo Guilherme stressed that the training initiative aims to consolidate technicians' knowledge, raise their performance level, and achieve the required standards of excellence in statistical data production. The training cycle will train up to 400 technicians from the planning offices of ministries and provincial governments, as well as from the provincial services of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and public institutes and bodies dependent on the ministries.
