OUAGADOUGOU – Bassolma Bazié, Burkina Faso’s Minister of State and Minister in charge of Labor and Social Protection, has called for strengthened efforts in the fight against child labor. Speaking from Geneva on the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labor, Minister Bazié emphasized the need to maintain and expand the progress made in reducing child labor in Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, significant strides have been made in reducing the prevalence of economically active children, with figures decreasing from 41.1% in 2006 to 40.3% in 2022. The incidence of child labor that needs to be abolished has also seen a reduction from 39.3% in 2006 to 31.9% in 2022. Furthermore, the prevalence of dangerous forms of child labor has significantly decreased, dropping from 35.8% in 2006 to 18.6% in 2022. “To preserve these gains and put an end to the worst forms of child labor, it is necessary for our country to intensify its efforts to combat child labor in compliance with commitments made at the global level,” stated Mr. Bazié. He also acknowledged the dedication of all partners working alongside the government to improve the conditions for children in Burkina Faso, despite the challenging circumstances the country faces.
