Mines Ministry Unveils Strategic Plan for 2025-2030

Windhoek: The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy has unveiled its strategic plan for the years 2025/26 to 2029/30, setting out a comprehensive roadmap to boost Namibia's industrial, mineral, and energy sectors over the next five years.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the report, released on Monday, is organized around five major strategic pillars: infrastructure development, manufacturing and value addition, geoscience and natural resources development, energy sustainability, and good governance and operational excellence. The first pillar focuses on infrastructure development, aiming to accelerate investment in physical assets. Key performance indicators during this period include the number of energy infrastructure projects funded and the operationalisation of new industrial units across various regions.

In terms of manufacturing and value addition, the ministry seeks to enhance enterprise productivity and promote local beneficiation. Success in this area will be measured by the number of new sectors and value chains supported, as well as the establishment of gemstone training centres and new green industries.

The third pillar, geoscience and natural resources development, aims to strengthen research and surveying to attract both international and local investment. A key objective is to empower more Namibians to participate directly in the mining industry through increased geoscientific research and technical support.

The energy sector strategy prioritises the development of low-carbon energy solutions and ensuring sustainable access to electricity for all citizens. This includes exploring renewable energy sources to align with global climate goals and domestic requirements.

The final pillar focuses on good governance and operational excellence, involving a comprehensive review of the ministry's internal efficiency and the existing legal framework. The report outlines the development and finalisation of several critical policies, including the National Industrial Policy and the National Energy Fund Policy. Additionally, the ministry intends to produce a White Paper on Nuclear Power.

These initiatives are designed to align the ministry's daily operations with broader national policy agendas. The plan emphasizes industrialisation, resource beneficiation, and long-term energy security through a structured matrix of performance indicators and annual targets, the report concluded.
