OUAGADOUGOU — Lieutenant-Colonel Évrard Somda and several officers are detained under accusations of plotting against Burkina Faso’s state security, the Military Tribunal reported. Since October 2023 and February 2024, these officers, including the former national gendarmerie boss, have been held on suspicions of attempting to overthrow President Ibrahim Traoré.

According to Burkina Information Agency, who spoke to journalists this Saturday, the alleged coup was motivated by what the accused perceived as targeted actions against officers of their cohort and specific soldiers.
