Migration Service Expels Over 500 Foreign Citizens from Cunene in 2025

Cunene: The Migration and Foreign Service (SME) expelled 556 foreign citizens who were found to be in irregular migratory situations from the province of Cunene in 2025. This figure marks an increase of 169 individuals compared to the same period last year.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the SME's annual report revealed that among those expelled, 514 were Namibian, 15 South African, eight Zimbabwean, five Zambian, two Portuguese, two Brazilian, two Congolese, two Ethiopian, and six each from Mozambique, Mexico, Chad, Poland, Kenya, and Cuba. Of these, 554 individuals were expelled administratively, while two were removed judicially through the border posts of Santa Clara, Calueque, and Okalongo, which are located on the border with Namibia.

The report highlighted that the infractions leading to these expulsions involved illegal entry and prolonged stays within the national territory. This situation led to the processing of 738 cases, a significant increase from the 513 cases recorded in the same period last year. In addition, nine individuals were detained for aiding illegal immigration.

During the same period, entry into Angola was denied to eight foreigners, including four Namibians, two from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, one Brazilian, and one Zambian. The reasons for denial included unpaid fines and lack of valid passports.

The report also noted that 1,610 Angolan citizens were received back after being expelled from Namibia for illegal residence. The SME documented the movement of 667,781 citizens across the border, with 450,010 being Angolan nationals and 213,771 foreigners.

Cunene province features a 460-kilometer border with the Republic of Namibia, 340 kilometers of which are land-based and 120 kilometers river-based.
