Migori Power Penetration Reaches 76% in Public Institutions

Migori: Seventy-six per cent of public schools and institutions in Migori County are now connected to electricity, as confirmed by Opiyo Wandayi, the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Energy and Petroleum. Wandayi highlighted this achievement as a significant milestone in the government's initiative to create a conducive learning environment.

According to Kenya News Agency, Wandayi emphasized the government's commitment to extending power connections to public institutions and the broader public, integrating them into the national grid to promote clean energy, enhance educational activities, and stimulate economic ventures. The CS made these remarks during the official opening of Kanyimach Secondary School in South Kamagambo Ward, Rongo Sub-County.

In addition to the school opening, Wandayi launched the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) Ondhong SDA Last Mile Connectivity Project (LMCP) at Karabare Village in the same ward. He noted that this initiative would provide residents with access to a clean, stable, and affordable power supply. Mama Agnes Adoyo, a beneficiary of the project, expressed gratitude, acknowledging that the electricity connection would help her grandchildren complete their homework on time and reduce energy costs.

Moreover, during his visit to Rongo University for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Rongo University College of Health Sciences, Wandayi reiterated the government's pledge to expand national grid connectivity, ensuring all citizens enjoy clean, safe, reliable, and affordable power.

Rongo Member of Parliament Paul Abuor also commented on the development, stating that improved power connectivity would lead to job creation, empower youths and women towards socio-economic independence, and enhance the economic standards of Migori County.
