Migori Town, Migori County – During the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Migori County Stadium, local officials emphasized the critical role of Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in delivering essential healthcare services to the community.

According to a new release by Kenya News Agency, CHPs are the first level of contact for healthcare in the community. The governor urged these healthcare workers to serve diligently and focus solely on their roles, rather than engaging in other businesses that could jeopardize their societal service. Ayacko also noted that both the National and County governments appreciate the significance of good health and recognized a total of 2,861 Community Health Volunteers during the celebrations. These volunteers have been instrumental in providing healthcare services in rural areas.

The Governor assured CHPs across the county of safety during their door-to-door health promotion visits and emphasized their pivotal role in achieving Universal Health Care in the county. He also stated that both his administration and the National Government are committed to ensuring Universal Health Care for all, without discrimination.

Migori County Commissioner Mr. David Gitonga echoed these sentiments during the event, urging CHPs to prioritize the welfare of the residents they serve. Gitonga also assured the healthcare providers that the government will support their efforts to make Universal Health Care provision successful.

On security matters, the County Commissioner stated that all necessary agencies were prepared to handle any security breaches. Gitonga issued a warning against those planning to incite the public, especially in relation to cattle rustling in the Kuria region. He urged members of the Migori County Assembly to introduce a Bill proposing the branding of cattle to facilitate easier tracing of stolen animals across county boundaries. The Commissioner also expressed his commitment to combating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the Kuria region and mentioned plans for a joint baraza with Tanzanian law enforcers to address this issue.
