MIGORI — Migori County Commissioner David Gitonga has addressed public concerns regarding the safety of a local gas storage depot operated by M-Gas, reassuring residents of Migori about the absence of gas refilling activities at the site. This statement comes amid rising apprehensions surrounding the operations of the gas distributing company located on the outskirts of Migori town.

According to Kenya News Agency, who spoke during a visit to the M-Gas facility alongside the county’s multi-agency security team, the company holds a valid license for holding and distribution issued by both the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). The impromptu inspection by the officials confirmed that the facility does not engage in gas refilling but operates solely as a storage depot.

The County Commissioner urged the local community to dismiss the circulating rumors about potential risks posed by the facility, emphasizing that M-Gas adheres to the legal requirements set forth by relevant regulatory bodies. He assured the residents that their safety concerns were unfounded and that the operations of M-Gas are in full compliance with the law.

M-Gas, a product of Safaricom, represents a recent innovation in the Kenyan energy market, offering a smart technology service that includes a gas cylinder, cooker, smart meter, and a key card that can be topped up using M-PESA. This model is designed to provide a convenient and safe way for Kenyans to access and use cooking gas.
