MIGORI COUNTY: Migori County has equipped agricultural extension officers with 20 motorcycles to improve their mobility and enhance the delivery of agricultural services to local farmers. The initiative aims to address transportation challenges faced by extension officers, thereby improving agricultural productivity across the region. According to Kenya News Agency, the flag-off ceremony took place at Kabubu-Wasweta II Ward in Suna West Sub County, where Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko emphasized the crucial role of extension officers in providing agricultural support. Governor Ayacko highlighted the county's commitment to strengthening agricultural outreach, allowing officers to reach remote areas efficiently and support farmers in boosting productivity. Governor Ayacko urged farmers to take advantage of the extension services available in all 40 wards of the county. He encouraged them to leverage the favorable climate and fertile soils to produce commodities like milk, rice, bananas, and chicken, thereby re ducing reliance on imports. He emphasized that utilizing the expertise of extension officers would contribute to increased production and food security within the county. In addition to providing motorcycles, Governor Ayacko presented a Sh20 million cheque to 20 farmers' Saccos as part of an initiative supported by the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP). This financial boost aims to enhance agricultural production and wealth generation for Sacco members. The governor reiterated his administration's commitment to empowering farmers through cooperatives and Saccos, promoting socio-economic development, reducing poverty, and creating job opportunities. Governor Ayacko stated that financial support through the NAVCDP would not only build financial resilience but also advance the collective goal of improved agricultural productivity and improved livelihoods across Migori County. He encouraged farmers to join Saccos and cooperatives to access grants and other resources that would stren gthen and expand value chain productivity. Additionally, the Saccos received various office equipment, including computers, printers, fireproof cabinets, tables, and chairs, to support their operations and maintain up-to-date records.
