Hamas launched the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’ operation against Israel by surprise, killing at least 22 people. In return, the Israeli army launched dozens of fighter planes on Hamas positions in Operation Steel Sabers.
‘We have decided to put an end to all the crimes of the occupation’ (Israel, Editor’s note), and ‘more than 5,000 rockets’ have been fired since this morning, declares Mohammad Deif, commander of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, in an audio recording broadcast by Al-Aqsa TV, the television channel of Hamas, the Islamist movement in power in Gaza.
Around twenty Israeli civilians were mowed down, leading to condemnations around the world.
Hamas ‘will pay an unprecedented price,’ assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Thus, the Israeli army, in an operation called ‘Sabers of Steel’, began strikes on Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip.
