MURANG’A: A Murang’a court has sentenced Ephantus Irungu, a 33-year-old man, to a two-year imprisonment for stealing a goat from his neighbor, reaffirming the judiciary’s stance against repeat offenders. Senior Resident Magistrate Erick Analo handed down the sentence on Thursday, rejecting Irungu’s appeal for a non-custodial sentence based on his prior criminal record.

According to Kenya News Agency, Irungu pleaded guilty to the theft of a goat valued at Sh. 15,000, belonging to Peter Mburu, which occurred on September 3 in Ndutuni village, Murang’a East Sub County. The court had previously called for a probation report, which revealed Irungu’s history of similar offenses, leading to the magistrate’s decision to impose a custodial sentence.

During the proceedings, Irungu sought leniency, expressing remorse and a willingness to change his behavior. However, the prosecution opposed his request, highlighting his repeated involvement in theft. Magistrate Analo stated that the two-year sentence aims to serve as
a deterrent and provide Irungu with an opportunity for reform.
